Day 226 – Sun 16 April – Easter Sunday. There was no Sunday School and so it was a slower morning. We had a great service singing Christ the Lord is Risen Today, See What a Morning and Thine Be the Glory. People sang really well. I preached on Matthew 28 on the Resurrection as the Great Reversal and felt helped as I preached, we had the Lord’s Supper. It was a good Sunday morning.
We headed back to Wales straight after the service for my Dad’s retirement service in Noddfa, Pontarddulais. He’s been there 4 years and went into a pretty awful situation to try and help, I think he’s done a good job in holding the church together. Dad has known the congregation since it’s earliest days coming out of the Presbyterian Church in the 1970s, I used to go along with him as a little boy when he was preaching there.
All 4 of us Children turned up as a surprise for Mam and Dad, along with 6 of the Granchildren, the congregation are thankful for all that Dad has done, they are more stable as a congregation now but it will be a tricky time for them looking for a new minister. The church had a farewell do in the afternoon with speeches and gifts for my parents but we missed that as we didn’t get there in time. Dad is 81 and he looked older last night, his voice was weaker in preaching than I remember. He preached warmly from Acts 20 on Paul’s farewell to the Ephesian elders. It was really good to be there.
We all went back to my eldest brother Dave’s house and talked about nonsense for a couple of hours as families do.
