How not to pray – part 2

“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.” Matthew 6:5

When I was at Cornhill a few of us went out for breakfast with Phillip Jensen and were pretty desperate to impress him. When the food arrived one of my friends piously asked Phillip – “Would you bless the food?” To which Phillip responded “Say it yourself, you Pharisee

Of course it’s not wrong to give thanks in a restaurant but we don’t pray to be seen by others.
