Almighty God, many of us came to you once and we confessed to you that we were sinners and asked that you would forgive us and cleanse us of all our sins through your blessed Son Jesus Christ.
You heard and answered us, and we were ransomed, healed and forgiven.
Since that time we have needed every day, as again today, to confess the sins of our lives to you.
We sometimes, through the voice of the devil, grow weary of coming to you to confess the same routine sins, day after day: our ego, prayerlessness, lust, greed, being discontented, being lukewarm, failing to love you or to love our neighbours as ourselves…
Yet we have to do the same today.
We confess those sins to you and pray that you will help us never to grow weary of confessing the same sins to you, and never to doubt that your mercy is greater than all the sins we commit all through our lives.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
